About PCC

Cities along the Peninsula have joined together to provide input into the process of reviewing and constructing the high speed rail project between San Francisco and San Jose.  Although each city faces unique and specific location challenges, all Peninsula cities share many similar concerns and the strong underlying belief that particular care must be taken to integrate high speed rail into the living fabric of the Peninsula.

Our objective is to have the California High Speed Rail Authority collaborate with the Peninsula Cities Consortium and its member cities in determining the alignment,  the range of alternatives and mitigations. We believe that the final design should minimize the impacts, improve the quality of life in local communities and incorporate the best urban design ideas.

Member Cities

The cities of Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Burlingame and Belmont are members of the Peninsula Cities Consortium (PCC). They invite other cities on the Caltrain corridor to join the organization. Click on the city links on the left to learn more about what is happening in each city.

Menlo Park Mayor Richard Cline is the chair of PCC; Palo Alto Mayor Pat Burt is vice chair of the organization.

Five Cities Call for Common Sense in High Speed Rail Planning

In a statement issued July 6, the five cities – Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Belmont and Burlingame – announce, “High speed rail should be built right or not at all. By ‘right,’ we mean that the rail line should integrate into our communities without harming their current livability. The best design and community values, rather than finances, should determine the alignment.”

PCC Accomplishments

The Peninsula Cities Consortium (PCC) formed at the beginning of 2009, shortly after voters approved spending $9 billion on a statewide high speed rail system. The five cities involved, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Belmont and Burlingame, signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to work together to make sure that the final design minimizes the impacts upon local communities and incorporates the best urban design ideas from around the world.
